The 2008 fundraising dinner for the Stouffville Igoma Partnership (SIP) was another resounding success.
Preliminary estimates indicate that approximately $40,000 was raised towards improving the quality of life for the 40,000 residents of Igoma, Tanzania. The dinner took place Oct. 17 at EastRidge Church and included the beautiful music performances of Nicole Strawbridge and Elizabeth Polese and a silent auction, with many unique items, among them a hockey stick signed by Frank Mahovolich and 17 team mates from the 1967-68 Toronto Maple Leafs.
Since its inception, SIP has built Igoma’s first medical clinic and mother-child infant care facility, provided salaries for staff, bought and distributed more than 3,000 mosquito nets and organized eye clinics with the Lion’s Club Mwanza , which is supported by the Stouffville Lions Club. It has also initiated vocational training and funded medical staff and secondary school tuition programs.
Goals for 2009 include basic hygiene, sewing and computer classes; expanding training and tuition programs and supporting and expanding medical clinic operations. For more information visit www.sipartnership.org or call 905-640-3911 ext. 42.
